Designing Dissent: advocacy and awareness poster
introduction to information architecture
Information design in its broadest form is about the selection, organization and display/presentation of content to a given group of people. Information architecture seeks to establish a framework that allows for the successful structuring and transmission of knowledge, making the complex become more clear, enabling the viewer to find their own personal path to understanding.
a.1 -> Develop a poster that strongly conveys a dissenting view on current political, economic or cultural causes or issues that currently exist with in this country. Visual Communicators possess both dynamic and strategic tools to create memorable messages; this poster is intended to serve as a social mechanism for advocacy, awareness, action, confrontation and motivation.
a.2 -> Develop a 8 page(4 spreads) catalogue to reinforce your view in the poster. The catalogue must be bound and 1# spreads will act as your cover. So 3 spreads with have content elaborating on your view from the poster. The catalogue can not be any smaller then 4 x 7(inches). Only two colors can be used in the design of the catalogue but this does not include the paper.
- 70% type and 30 % graphics/images
Information in and of it’s self is very powerful, but without clarity, fluency and form there can be little understanding. Construct a strategy/system to present the information through the use of letterforms, color and graphic/image elements.
>Give it dynamic form, provide for a meaningful dialogue not just a
monologue
>Demonstrate a clear purpose
>Make the viewer “think” about what the information means
>Show thoughtful and meaningful arrangement of content
>Encourage the eye to examine the different pieces of data respectively
>Show a language that is accessible and interesting
